This Privacy Policy explains what information the Read Aloud (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, how we use it, and how we protect it. By using the extension, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1.1 Account Information (Google Sign-In)

When you sign in with Google, we receive from Google:

• Email address
• Full name (first name, last name)
• Profile picture URL

We use this solely to identify your account and provide the service.

1.2 Usage Statistics

We collect anonymous usage counters to understand how the service is used:

• Number of characters converted to speech (per voice)
• Counts of actions you perform: reading the full page, reading selected text, pasting text, uploading a PDF

We do not store the text you read or listen to. Text is sent to our server only to generate audio and is discarded immediately after.

1.3 Account Activity Dates

We store the following timestamps on your account:

• Account creation date
• Last login date
• Last activity date
• Extension uninstall date (if you remove the extension)
• Extension reinstall date (if you return after uninstalling)

1.4 Local Settings (stored only on your device)

The following preferences are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local and are never sent to our servers:

• Selected voice
• Playback speed
• Interface language
• Auto-detect language setting

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and operate the text-to-speech service
• Maintain your account and session
• Track usage limits (e.g., character quotas)
• Improve the extension based on aggregate usage patterns
• Comply with legal obligations

3. Text You Submit

Text you submit for speech synthesis (typed, pasted, selected, or extracted from a page) is sent to our server to generate audio. We do not store, log, or analyze the content of this text. It is processed in memory and discarded immediately after the audio is returned.

4. Cookies and Sessions

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in after you authenticate with Google. This cookie:

• Is stored in your browser
• Is required for the service to function
• Is cleared when you log out

We do not use marketing cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your information with third parties except:

• Service infrastructure: our server is hosted on Railway (railway.app). Your data passes through their infrastructure subject to their privacy policy.
• Google OAuth: we use Google Sign-In for authentication. Google’s data practices are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
• Legal requirements: if required to do so by law or to protect our rights.

6. Data Retention

• Account data is retained as long as your account is active.
• You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at codeinsack@gmail.com.
• Local settings stored in your browser can be cleared by removing the extension.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction or deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict processing of your data
• Withdraw consent at any time

8. Children

The extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure session management. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
